Description

We are looking for a Project Officer to support the implementation of a Birds on Farms project that is facilitating woodland habitat restoration, increased landscape connectivity, and enhance populations of woodland birds on private rural properties across a region spanning from the ACT northwards to Yass and surrounds.

This role will contribute to this Birds on Farms project by:

  • Coordinating and expanding a citizen-science bird monitoring program, including training activities and data management.
  • Working with rural landholders to develop plans for their property that address the retention and enhancement of woodland habitats.
  • Developing and distributing relevant education materials, and implementing other engagement activities, to raise public awareness of the key conservation needs of threatened and declining woodland birds.
  • Fostering and maintaining relationships with project partners and volunteers.
  • If leveraged funding is secured, assist landholders and work with project partners (e.g., Landcare) on the implementation of on-ground habitat restoration.
  • Assisting the project coordinator with all other aspects of project delivery as required.

Status and remuneration:

This full-time position 5 days per week (1.0 FTE) offered on a 2-year max term contract through to the end of June 2025 which comes with an attractive salary range of $68,500 to $75,710 per annum (inclusive of 10.5% superannuation). Final salary within this range to be negotiated with the successful candidate based on skills and experience.

This role is based in the ACT-to-Yass region. It is expected that the successful applicant would work from a home office (or similar) situated within or immediately adjoining the project area.

Regular field trips within the project area to landholder properties, meetings with project partners and other related activities will be required.

To apply for this role you must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology, Environmental Science or a related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of woodland birds and their conservation in Australia
  • Knowledge of issues affecting rural landholders and communities, including the agricultural sector
  • Excellent communications skills, including public speaking and writing for a variety of audiences
  • Experience in working with volunteers and rural communities
  • Knowledge of habitat restoration techniques used to improve woodland bird communities
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Have valid Australian work rights with permission to work
