Description

BirdLife International is seeking a dynamic and  experienced Project Manager to coordinate the implementation of a project entitled 'Strengthening networks for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats along the west coast of Africa'.  The position will entail management of fieldwork,  advocacy, conservation action and awareness raising in seven countries in West Africa; Mauretania,  Guinea, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde , Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea Bissau in collaboration with Wetlands International and relevant Forestry and wildlife conservation authorities in these countries. The BirdLife Project Manager will be based in Dakar, Senegal.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have significant field based experience in wildlife/Natural Resource management or demonstrable similar experience.
  • Excellent project and financial management skills
  • Minimum academic qualification of a Masters degree in a relevant area of natural resource management, biodiversity conservation or related areas.
  • S/he should have a good track record and experience in conservation work in Africa.
  • Exemplary communication and writing skills in English and French.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with NGOs in Africa (or elsewhere) will be advantageous.
  • Proven ability that the person is a self-starter capable of working with little or no direct supervision will be desirable. 

Duration of contract:

Two years with a possibility of renewal for a further one year. The indicative starting date for this position is 01 March 2011.

Salary

Negotiable dependent on qualifications and experience but expected to be in the range of about 24,000 Euros per annum.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to participate in an interview expected to take place in Mid- end December 2010, mainly via telephone. The potentially successful candidate will be expected to travel briefly to the BirdLife International Office in Nairobi, Kenya probably in mid-January for a final interview before being offered the job.
