Biological Project Manager

Ecology and Environment, Inc. is a fully integrated environmental consulting firm committed to supporting sustainable development through responsible environmental stewardship.  We are seeking a Biological Project Manager for our corporate office in Buffalo, N.Y. to develop and oversee energy projects in the northeast.

 

Our successful candidate must have a strong understanding of the various permitting and environmental documentation processes (e.g. NEPA compliance) for energy projects including pipelines, transmission, and renewables and demonstrated abilities at project management, project-related research and technical writing.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a variety of environmental projects for  energy clients including electrical transmission, pipelines, and wind farms in the northeast
  • Coordinate and meet with energy project developers and owners/operators
  • Federal and state Agency coordination and negotiation
  • Directing biological studies including wetland delineations, cultural resource assessments, and T&E surveys
  • Managing multidisciplinary project teams and prioritizing work assignments
  • Preparing NEPA documents and obtain the necessary environmental and other required local, state, and federal permits including wetlands/404 permits and jurisdictional determinations
  • Ensuring that project teams work together to achieve results – setting performance targets for staff, providing inspiring leadership and direction, and actively identifying and resolving issues
  • Understanding and accounting for project contract requirements, assuring that commitments are met in accordance with deliverables, schedule, and with the appropriate level of quality
  • Assisting with proposal efforts focusing on environmental permitting for energy sector clients

 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology  or a related discipline: Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience including project / task management experience
  • Familiarity with wetland delineations; PWS desired
  • Environmental permitting experience required; New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania experience preferred
  • Knowledge of major federal statutes and implementing regulations, including NEPA, CWA, CAA, NHPA, etc.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills with attention to detail and a high quality of work in a pressure environment
  • Strong project management and technical writing skills
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, disciplines, and experts including senior management, clients, and other departments
  • Ability to travel to support business needs
