Biological Oceanographer/Phytoplankton Ecologist

Senior Lecturer/Reader

Salary up to £51, 273

We seek to appoint a senior scientist within the Microbial and Molecular Biology Department at SAMS. Applicants should possess skills that that can be applied at full range of scales, from coastal through shelf to basin, and that complement existing departmental strengths in shelf sea biogeochemistry, microbial food web interactions, and harmful algae. The department hosts the UK national Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (CCAP) and applicants capable of linking field and laboratory work are also therefore encouraged.

The appointee will be a core member of the department’s scientific staff and will be expected to provide scientific leadership in their area of expertise. You will be a high calibre scientist with a proven ability to publish Research Excellence Framework (REF) 3*/4* quality research, have a successful record of grant capture, and be fully engaged in national and/or international networks.

You will have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and a track record of successful postgraduate training and supervision.

The position is open ended, and is based at the Scottish Marine Institute near Oban. It is part funded by the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland (MASTS).
