Accountabilities
• Conduct habitat assessment and surveys for Desert Tortoise and Burrowing Owl.
• Includes monitoring construction crews to assure compliance with biological requirements
• Applicant will conduct biological monitoring, preconstruction sweeps for the federally threatened Desert Tortoise, western burrowing owl and rare plants species.
• Mohave Ground Squirrel trapping experience a plus
Knowledge
• Excellent written communication skills are required.
• 1-3 years experience in biological monitoring on construction projects, surveying, sampling and data collection
• Qualified applicants should be familiar with ad have experience survey and monitoring techniques for Desert Tortoise.
• Applicants must possess good communication and organizational skills.
• Applicants must be in excellent physical condition.
• During the field season, the incumbent spends considerable time outdoors, where the incumbent may encounter variable weather conditions.
• Field work is extensive, and may require long hours walking over rough terrain to conduct surveys and monitoring.
• The ability to work both independently and with others is essential.
• Students and recent graduates also are encouraged to apply.
• Reliable transportation required.
Preferred:
• Degree in biology, wildlife management, botany or other related field.
• Applicants with working knowledge of GPS are especially encouraged to apply.
• MOU from California Department of Fish and Game for trapping Mohave Ground Squirrel is plus.
