| | BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | | • Associate’s degree in natural resources, environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months of experience. • Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources. • Experience performing administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented and numerical tasks. • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite software. • Experience working and communicating with a diverse group of people. | | ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION | | POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Assist Biologist with black pine snake study to include, but not limited to, building traps, identifying potential trap sites, installation of drift fences, trapping, radio telemetry, identification of reptiles and amphibians, habitat characterization. Field work includes mandatory coordination with Range Control in an environment of poisonous snakes, ticks, unexploded ordnance and restricted access areas. • Assist with gopher tortoise projects to include, but not limited to, radio telemetry, surveys, nest searching, care of hatchling/juvenile tortoises, sampling vegetation in association with habitat characterization, checking traps. • Assist with Camp Shelby Burrowing Crayfish surveys and sampling. • Perform data entry and maintain records for use by others in the office. • Assist with gopher tortoise and rare species surveys. • Use ArcGIS and GPS as needed. • Knowledge of southeastern flora and fauna. • Ability to use telemetry equipment. • Assists with monitoring of invasive species. • Familiarity with a variety of electrical and fuel powered tools, and must be able to operate these tools safely. Must follow recommended safety guidelines and precautions specified for said work and vehicle operation. • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: • Associate’s degree in natural resources, environmental studies or related field, and 6 months to one year related work experience or equivalent combination. Bachelor’s degree preferred. • Ability to independently complete tasks within assigned time frames. • Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Experience utilizing databases for data entry and report production. • Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files. • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and geographical means in English and other relevant languages.
COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING: • Resolve routine problems independently. • Consult with supervisor to develop plans for resolution of unusual or complex problems.
DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING: • Make day-to-day decisions within scope of the incumbent’s work assignments. • Consult with supervisor in event of any unusual circumstance, problem or question that affects the work of others or may have impact on the program as a whole. • Prioritize work independently, working with supervisor as needed.
RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT –FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY: • Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns. • Maintains project records. • May purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget and in consultation with supervisor. • May assist with program budget preparation and monitoring. • May perform financial and administrative tasks related to project appraisals, surveys and title work.
COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: • Ability to work cooperatively with a number of staff and external parties, sometimes under pressure, in order to complete project work and goals in a timely manner. • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of parties, including landowners, outside legal counsel, resource and home office staff • Ability to gain cooperation from coworkers and others over whom the individual has no direct authority. • Ability to function productively as a member or leader of a work team. • Familiarity with standard business communications; ability to write and edit correspondence.
