There is a student internship available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Bioenergy Center, in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We have an immediate opening for a part-time undergraduate student internship in Golden, Colorado.
NREL’s National Bioenergy Center is conducting research to improve biochemical conversion of biomass to fuels and chemicals using pilot-scale equipment and systems. The intern will assist in tracing piping and instrument installation in the current facility and updating/generating new electronic piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) using AutoCAD. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who desires to obtain relevant industrial experience for a career in the biofuels or chemical industries. This effort is expected take approximately six months.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program at an accredited institution. 

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be proficient in a CAD software program; proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD is highly preferred. Must be able to survey equipment and piping with minimal supervision and with the utmost regard to safety. Must be able to edit and condense various types of CAD drawings into polished and accurate P&ID drawings following NREL’s drawing standards. Familiarity with industrial instrumentation, pipe types/sizes, pipe fittings, valve types, pump types, and pressure vessels is desirable but not required.
An undergraduate student in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering with a desire to work in a pilot plant setting and gain experience in biofuel and chemical pilot plants.
