Description

BACKGROUND

The post is part of the Biodiversity Programme (BP) branch of the Technical Support Programme (TSP) within Wild Asia. The BP aims to create working models in production landscapes that protect, enhance or manage Biodiversity and High Conservation Values (HCV). The BP brings together core team members and outside associates to perform research, consultations and provide technical support for Wild Asia’s clients and projects. Additionally, the BP actively develops research projects with international and national researchers to explore the effectiveness of current methods and approaches to promote, enhance or manage Biodiversity and HCVs.

The post will be based in Sabah (Malaysia), tentatively at the Sabah Forest Research Center, Sepilok as we have a collaborative partnership with the Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre (TRCRC). You will be part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary group of people with links to globally recognized partners. You will also have a hand in further development of the Biodiversity Programme through applied research projects.

THE POST

The post-holder will be mainly managing operations of Wild Asia’s newly established position in Sabah. You will work closely with the Biodiversity Programme Manager and WA members based in Sabah and/or Sarawak to ensure projects run smoothly. You will also take a leading role in fieldwork preparation and collection, as well as supervising students/internship candidates/volunteers. Experience in conducting fieldwork in Borneo is highly desirable, but experience in other parts of Asia is also acceptable. You will be expected to help plan and run seminars/workshops involving project partners and smallholder farmers in Sabah.
