Job Description:
Position Summary and Responsibilities:

The Natural Resources Sector is seeking to hire a full-time Development Specialist for its team based at DAI Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. The Biodiversity Conservation Specialist will be required to conduct technical assignments and assist with business acquisition in the area of biodiversity conservation as well as watershed management, ecosystem services, natural resources policy, and protected area management. Duties of the Biodiversity Conservation Specialist will be to (1) expand the natural resource management portfolio by assisting in the preparation of written proposals, (2) support ongoing projects through technical oversight, and (3) provide on-site technical inputs to ongoing efforts overseas. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support to one or more projects in an existing portfolio that includes three natural resource management projects in sub-Saharan Africa, three in South-East Asia, two in Central America/Caribbean and the Capitalizing Knowledge, Connecting Communities project, which has global scope.

Qualifications:

DAI is looking for an individual who is committed to pursuing a career in international development and who has already demonstrated his/her professional skills in this area. Applicants should have at least Masters Degree in an appropriate discipline and 5 to 10 years experience of which at least 2 years should have been spent working in a developing country on natural resource-related activities. A preference will be shown for applicants that have worked in Latin America, South-East Asia or Sub-Saharan Africa. Preferred areas of technical expertise include biodiversity conservation in marine and terrestrial environments, protected area management and related rural development activities. Candidates having additional experience in cross-cutting themes such as forging linkages with the private sector, decentralized governance and natural resource-based enterprise development (including tourism) are preferred.

Basic Qualifications:
In addition to having very strong verbal and written communications skills in English, applicants should have at least one foreign language at the FSI 3/3 level or better. A preference will be given to candidates with French or Spanish. Applicants with project management experience, hands-on experience using Geographical Information Systems and other pertinent skills are encouraged to provide details of such skills and experience.
