Description
Chemonics seeks a biodiversity and forestry specialist for the USAID-funded biodiversity and Watersheds Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystem Resilience project based in Manila. The project aims to enhance the resilience of watershed ecosystems and communities, generate financial incentives for biodiversity and forest conservation, and build capacity for sustainable watershed management in the Philippines. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities? include:
  • Oversee biodiversity and watershed assessment, planning, implementation, and capacity building for programs to enhance biodiversity protection, watershed management, including climate change considerations
  • Work with the Protected Areas Wildlife Bureau, Forest Management Bureau, Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau, and National Greening Program to develop research agendas on biodiversity
  • Analyze impact on biodiversity using climate change modeling outputs
  • Oversee the mapping and remote-sensing specialist and oversee subcontractor inputs and recommendations
  • Coordinate with chief of party, deputy chief of party, and other cross-cutting staff
Qualifications: 
  • Advanced degree in environmental sciences, biodiversity, ecology, environmental studies, biology, or other relevant field required
  • Significant experience with biodiversity issues in Southeast Asia, specifically the Philippines
  • Mapping experience
  • Proven ability to provide strategy and oversight of climate change mitigation activities
  • P?rofessional experience with international donor programs
  • Understanding of protected areas in the Philippines 
  • Experience preparing natural resource management plans and influencing policy
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Management experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively 
  • Oral and written English language proficiency ?
