Forum for the Future is looking to appoint up to three Festival project interns in our Bristol Office for the period January 2013 to Easter.

Bristol’s BIG Green Week festival in June is the UK’s annual international festival of environmental ideas, art and culture. In 2012 more than 100 events in 9 days attracted over 40,000 visitors (www.biggreenweek.com).

Successful applicants will assist with development, delivery and marketing of the festival and its events. While the whole team share in elements of event organisation and marketing, these intern roles will each major on at least two of the following key areas of responsibility:

  • Assisting our Bristol Green Capital partners to organise the community ‘Fringe Festival’ programme
  • Delivering our ‘Widening Participation’ outreach programme (including supporting our business engagement partners)
  • Developing ‘Weekend One’ harbourside free family events with our Festival of Nature partners
  • Helping design the Festival’s behaviour change campaign and audience feedback processes
  • Developing ‘Weekend Two’ city centre free family events with our BIG Market / Park Street Playground partners
  • Co-ordinating ‘Green Pass’ business liaison with participating firms and venues with our Bristol Pound partners

Person Specification:

  • Evidence of very strong project management experience and relationship building skills is essential
  • Experience of large event or conference organisation is an advantage, and/or marketing and social media experience
  • Excellent communication, ICT and team working skills
  • Well organised, able to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • An understanding of sustainable development is desirable, and a commitment to the values and mission of Forum for the Future is essential

Benefits of this internship:

  • Strong practical experience of festival and big event management and marketing
  • Project and partnership management skills development, with both voluntary and business sectors
  • Build up knowledge of sustainable development
  • Access to Forum for the Future resources and learning programme.

This internship is based in our Bristol office. Lunch expenses up to the value of £5 and daily travel expenses from within the Bristol city-region will be covered.

This intern period is initially for three months from January to Easter 2013; however we find that many interns stay on where they are able (even if in a reduced capacity) until the Festival itself in June, in order to see their project through to delivery.

Full or part-time applications will be considered to suit your circumstances, although we usually need a minimum commitment of three days a week.

Expected start date: Monday 7th January, hours to be negotiated.

To Apply:
Please apply with a CV, completed equal opportunities form and covering letter, and email them to Helen Saunders, recruitment@forumforthefuture.org

  • Your CV must be no more than two sides in length
  • Your covering letter must be no more than one side, clearly stating how your skills match the Person Specification above.

Closing date: 5pm Friday 30th November.
Interviews: Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th December in Bristol

Due to the number of applications we recieve we are unable to respond to all applicants.  If you have not heard from us by close of business on Friday 7th December please assume we will not be taking your applcation further.
