The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
The Beach Nesting Bird Assistant conducts monitoring and public outreach along with preserve maintenance at the South Cape May Meadows Preserve located in Cape May, NJ.
This may include one or more of the following functions:
Assist with the management, scientific monitoring and surveillance of several species of beach nesting birds.
Conduct regular beach patrols, to detect and remedy problems on-site including various forms of trespass, vandalism, attractive nuisance.
Interact with the public both to conduct environmental outreach and enforce preserve regulations.
Greet and provide information about The Nature Conservancy and the South Cape May Meadows to preserve and beach visitors.
Lead nature-based educational tours about the Conservancy’s conservation efforts and restoration projects at the refuge.
Communicate regularly with supervisor, stewardship staff, and site volunteers to keep up to date with on-site conservation information.
Assist with maintenance of the preserve including mowing, repairs to preserve infrastructure, invasive plant management, trash removal, posting signage, and water management.
