Description |
NHBS has teamed up with two of the UKs leading experts on bat survey and ecology, Jon Russ and Paul Howden-Leach to offer a series of training events for ecological consultants. We will be running two days of courses in both Reading taking place on 19th and 20th February 2013. On day one Jon Russ, Director of Ridgeway Ecology and author of ‘British Bat Calls: A Guide to Species identification’ will talk about the properties of sound, how bats use sound, bat detectors and recording devices, analysis software, call analysis, and bat species identification. On day two Paul Howden-Leach, Senior Consultant with Baker Consultants Ltd. and the UK's only Wildlife Acoustics accredited trainer will provide tuition on the SM2BAT+, including which settings are most appropriate, high and low pass filters, and detection rates for common species. Jon Russ’s day will be accessible to beginners although, like his book, much of the material covered is intermediate and knowledge and experience of bat call analysis will be beneficial although not essential. The SM2BAT+ day is specifically aimed at consultants and academics that have experience of using the SM2BAT+ in the field and are interested in learning more about how to get the best out of their bat detectors. The courses are available for £225 + VAT for a single day or for £400 + VAT if the two days are booked together. Refreshments and buffet lunch are included. (Please make sure to inform us if you have any specific dietary requirements).
