Position Description:

IBTCI is seeking an international Senior Wildlife Conservation/ NRM Specialist for its Mid-term Performance Evaluation of USAID’s Bengal Tiger Conservation Activity (Bagh) project which falls under USAID/Bangladesh-funded Accelerating Capacity for Monitoring & Evaluation (ACME) activity which IBTCI holds. The Bagh project was developed within the context of USAID’s broader Global Climate Change (GCC) Initiative. The Bagh Project consists of five components: expanded knowledge base; reduced illegal wildlife trafficking; minimized human-wildlife contact; enhanced communication, outreach, and gender engagement; and improved livelihoods for conservation. This is a short-term consulting opportunity, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The expected timeframe for this evaluation is 2 months in early 2016.

 

Responsibilities:

The Senior Wildlife Conservation/ NRM Specialist will:

  • Assess the effectiveness of project implementation according to the M&E plan;
  • Assist in addressing the evaluation questions about relevant interventions, efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability and managing the project;  
  • Provide technical leadership with respect to wildlife conservation, natural resources management and ecology;
  • Participate in team meetings, key informant interviews, group meetings, site visits, and draft the sections of the report relevant to his/her expertise and role in the team
  • Participate in presenting the report to USAID or other stakeholders;
  • Responsible for addressing pertinent comments provided by USAID/Bangladesh or other stakeholders.

 

 Qualifications:

  • Post graduate degree in wildlife management, ecology (ideally related to wetlands), zoology, or a related environmental science;
  • At least 8 years of international field experience in wildlife / protected area management, preferably with tigers in South Asia;
  • Prior M&E experience with at least one similar USAID project, or that of another international donor, and have familiarity with USAID regulations and systems;
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English are required;
  • Relevant experience in Bangladesh or South Asia preferred
  • Knowledge of Bangla is an asset.
