AVICULTURIST- The Marlborough Falcon Conservation Trust (MFCT) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced aviculturist to join our team in Marlborough, New Zealand. The MFCT is opening a new breeding and advocacy facility to aid in the conservation of New Zealand falcons, a threatened endemic species. DUTIES: The aviculturist will be responsible for general aviary and equipment maintenance, falcon care, artificial incubation and brooding of chicks, database maintenance, and advocacy displays. The aviculturist will also assist with the release of captive bred juvenile for in situ conservation. This position is part-time with an expected average of 25 hours per week, including some weekend work. Successful applicants will have experience working with birds of prey, including catching and handling birds, falconry techniques, and general raptor care. Advocacy is a key goal of the MFCT, and applicants are expected to display a high-level of professionalism and be confident and engaging speakers. Successful applicants will possess a degree in wildlife biology, or commensurate experience of at least 2 years working with birds of prey. Applicants must be able to work independently or in groups, must display leadership capabilities, and must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Applicants should be skilled at keeping accurate records, be interested in carrying out and publishing scientific studies, and be detail-oriented. The expected start date for this position is August 1, 2011.
