Description

CDP Europe is seeking a highly motivated, self-starter and well-networked individual to implement the EU government engagement strategy of the world’s leading climate change charity.

Main responsibilities

  • Implementation of the CDP EU government engagement strategy, working with partner organisations around the world to achieve CDP’s goals.
  • Ensuring that the CDP EU government engagement strategy is carried out in co-ordination with Government Relations and CDP Europe as well as related CDP teams including Cities, Communications, Technical Team and Fundraising.
  • Providing strategic policy and fundraising advice and assistance to CDP offices in Europe.
  • Working with partner organisations on a national and international basis to develop innovative ways of funding and supporting CDP’s work with governments, including taking the lead on the development of some fundraising bids.
  • Working with colleagues to identify and disseminate CDP’s key messages to policymakers.
  • Writing or contributing to press articles as required.

Requirements

  • An entrepreneurial spirit, a self-managing and initiative taking personality with the drive to make continuous improvements on delivery.
  • A clear understanding of the aims, objectives and processes of CDP.
  • A passionate desire to drive forward the mission of CDP.
  • An understanding of international and European climate change politics, and a grasp of key political developments in this area. Awareness of specific policy developments relating to corporate environmental reporting across the world but especially within the EU.
  • Live contacts and previous experience of working in a policy-related role or environment in Brussels, e.g. in the European Commission or Parliament, or in a think tank or consultancy.
  • Experience in working with the private sector, either as a direct employee or through stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in working on an international basis within Europe, e.g. to deal with differing languages, time zones and cultural expectations.
  • Ability to work alone or within a team, and to work across different functions and cultures within an organisation.
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills, ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented with good research, writing and drafting skills.
  • Experience of project management and/or event management.
  • Self-confidence and public speaking skills important for representing CDP at events and to interact with senior people from different sectors.

Language skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English skills and at least one other European language are essential.

The successful candidate will report to the Managing Director Europe and work closely with the Government Relations and the European teams. It is expected that there will be some travel in the region and the candidate must be able to work from home.

This is a full time position until June 2013, with the intention to convert into permanent employment pending the candidate’s results. Candidates should have EU work permit.
