Description

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation mandated with the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. At present, IRENA has 155 Members (154 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 25 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged. IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. The Agency implements its mandate with the view to sustainable development, increased energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.

IRENA, with its unique mandate and near-universal membership, is aiming to become a centre of excellence for global renewable energy information with an integrated approach to knowledge management. The Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre contributes to this effort through the provision of reliable and timely data and information about trends in renewable energy development in diverse areas such as: policies and measures; investments; energy production and consumption; costs; patents and standards; and socio-economic benefits.

Knowledge management activities in IRENA include: expanding and updating the content and presentation of IRENA’s datasets to external audiences; disseminating clear data-driven messages about renewable energy developments; and communicating with stakeholders to obtain information and inform them of new developments.

Under the guidance of the Director, KPFC and direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer (Statistics), the Associate Programme Officer (Knowledge Management) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide technical support and advice for the continuous improvement of IRENA’s online presentation of data and information, including the development of new webpages and tools, efficient methods for maintaining this content and seamless integration with the new corporate website.

  • Coordinate with internal and external data providers to obtain new content for the IRENA website and add this content to the appropriate webpages in a timely manner. Monitor the use of IRENA data and information, respond to user enquiries and keep users informed about the release of new data and information.

  • Capture and present experiences and lessons learned from countries engaged in the renewable energy transition, by soliciting information from stakeholders and providing a platform for the dissemination of this information and sharing experiences.

  • Manage and maintain the operational system used to create and present data-driven content, monitor performance of the system and troubleshoot errors or other issues as they occur.

  • Perform other duties as required, related to the development and presentation of IRENA data and information.

Qualifications

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business, information science or computer science, or any other subject with a strong emphasis on knowledge management. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience with the management and presentation of complex data and information.
Language: Excellent command of both written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
