ob Title: Campaign Analyst (Beyond Coal)

Department: Conservation, Beyond Coal Campaign

Reports To: Director of Campaign Operations

Context: Provides technical support, quantitative analysis, and recommendations on issues/policies/mechanisms at state and federal level affecting Beyond Coal campaign.  

Scope: The Campaign Analyst is responsible for providing on-going monitoring of external factors affecting Beyond Coal strategy, targets and outcomes. Researches, analyzes and develops reports/tools to assist Campaign in achieving established goals. Works in close cooperation with Campaign management team, staff, and volunteers.

Campaign: The Beyond Coal campaign is a nationwide grassroots effort to eliminate coal's contribution to global warming no later than 2030 and replace the existing coal infrastructure with a clean energy economy fueled by wind, solar, and geothermal. The Beyond Coal campaign is working to stop the construction of new coal-fired power plants, retire and replace the existing fleet of coal plants, and keep the U.S. coal reserves underground and out of world markets. Job Responsibilities:

1. Works closely with Campaign Management to provide materials for workshops, training programs, and presentations to key stakeholders facilitating content knowledge of energy sector.   

2. Provides on-going analysis of data and translates into user friendly reports and formats for staff and volunteers.

3. Continuously monitors Coal/Clean Energy fields to identify threats and opportunities affecting Campaign outcomes.

4. With Campaign Analyst – Monitoring & Evaluation, provides research, analysis, and other support for Beyond Coal campaign staff and volunteers as needed.

5. Researches and develops materials to enable Sierra Club staff and volunteers to effectively work with their local and state officials in meeting Campaign goals.

6. Manages the establishment and maintenance of a virtual library of reference materials for Campaign staff and volunteers.

7. In cooperation with fundraising staff, assists in the development of funding proposals and participates in grant making and solicitation efforts.

8. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Seasonal Activities:
Heavier seasonal workloads may occur as a result of project deadlines, staff absences and vacancies, and during peak activity periods. Occasional weekend and/or evening work required.

Knowledge & Skills:

-- MPA or MBA degree with concentration in quantitative analysis including statistics, economics, and/or finance.

-- 2 years experience in research and analysis or experience training others.

-- Excellent quantitative, analytical, and research skills. 

-- Expert computer skills, including advanced Excel. Comfort with Access, SQL, or other database.

-- Knowledge and background of energy sector and one or more cross-cutting components such as utilities, financing, workforce development, marketing, or local economic development.

-- Effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated public speaking ability.

-- Ability to work independently and in teams.

-- Detailed oriented, deadline driven.

-- Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
