ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Associate Director of Philanthropy II (ADOP) leads the Eastern NY Chapter’s philanthropy program and works closely with the Chapter Executive Director and development team to produce and implement an annual fundraising plan for the Chapter with a current fundraising target of $2 million.  S/he is responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive development program that secures significant funding resources to support the local, regional and global conservation goals of the Conservancy.

As the Philanthropy team leader, the ADOP oversees and coordinates the Chapter’s planning and interactions with other Conservancy fundraising operations.  S/he will focus on long-range strategic priorities and determines effective strategies for identified donors and prospects, as well as means of identifying new prospects and donors.  S/he currently manages and coordinates the efforts of three staff persons; one full-time Senior Donor Relations Manager based in NYC, a half-time Director of Volunteer Leadership and a part-time Philanthropy Coordinator.  S/he also plans and coordinates the Executive Director’s philanthropic endeavors and manages the Chapter’s fundraising budgets. 

The ADOP II manages and solicits major and middle gift prospects, including corporate and foundation donors but primarily individuals capable of giving at least $100,000 over three years.  S/he manages a portfolio of 50+ prospects, including trustees where appropriate, and visits donors on a regular basis with 50% of time spent in the field.

Discusses assets proficiently and listens for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands.  Provides opportunity for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving opportunity. Understands and complies with all TNC gift-related policies and procedures.  Involves and engages appropriate partners in the field and staff at the Worldwide Office, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues or concerns. Understands and complies with all TNC gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals.
