Description

An exciting opportunity to work with the HEI community to create and lead new interdisciplinary communities to deliver solutions that address the most pressing national and global environmental challenges. Examples of this include:

  • Creating an economy where growth is decoupled from consumption of natural resources
  • Creating economically socially and environmentally sustainable supply chains
  • Delivering cleaner air, water and reversing the decline in biodiversity.

In addition, the role will have oversight for NERC policy on programme evaluation and leadership of complex multi-funder interdisciplinary programmes.

You will deliver against NERC’s strategic ambitions set out in the Delivery Plan by providing leadership for interdisciplinary and multi-funder programmes, including establishing new programmes and key relationships and ensuring delivery of interdisciplinary programmes through providing leadership on governance and evaluation.  You will be responsible for the planning, delivery and resources for relevant UKRI-NERC priorities and outcomes, and for providing evidence of successful delivery.  Your authority will derive from deep knowledge of relevant policy, environmental science domains and stakeholders.

You will need:

  • Experience of working in environmental science or allied disciplines, through research, capability development and/or policy development
  • Excellent leadership and change management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop capability
  • Credibility with relevant stakeholder communities; ability to influence and network with senior stakeholders

NERC aims to create communities that can deliver environmental solutions by taking a whole-system, interdisciplinary approach as the norm.  It is no longer sufficient simply to understand environmental processes and identify environmental problems.  Through UKRI and NERC investment we will now harness all relevant disciplines and actors to deliver environmental solutions for business, government and society.

Choosing to come to work at NERC, part of UKRI, means that you will have access to a whole host of benefits including a flexible working scheme, a Career Average Revalued Earnings pension scheme, 30 days annual leave allowance (pro rata), access to employee shopping/travel discounts and salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
