As we are experiencing growth across the region, we are proactively seeking applications for the role of Associate Director- Environmental Planning, based in Abu Dhabi.
Role:
The Associate Director – Environmental Planning will be a specialist in water resource planning and water sensitive urban design and will provide a key business development role within the practice line of AECOM Planning, Design & Development (PDD). The Associate Director will network within the region to join multidisciplinary teams on quality projects, promote and secure work and essentially grow the market presence of AECOM PDD. Furthermore, the Associate Director will work closely with regional and global director groups to lead the growth of the EEP group, driving collaboration across business lines to leverage AECOM opportunities and expertise in the region. As a technical leader in their field of expertise and as such a project manager in their own right, the Associate Director shall routinely manage large or high profile projects ensuring these projects meet profitability, marketing and management targets.
Responsibilities:

  • Develop the Strategic Plan in consultation with the ME Business Line Leader and Regional Team & oversee the development and management of the local PDD group in accordance the agreed plan.
  • Develop and implement a marketing direction and plan for the practice, including the winning of work in accordance with the plan.
  • Provide design and project direction and support to all staff in the practice and work on projects within AECOM PDD as required.
  • Liaise with the Project Accountant, Managing Principals and as required Regional Finance Director on all financial matters and contractual matters to ensure effective management of projects.
  • Regularly communicate with Business Line and Regional Leaders and other Directors including the participation in regular meetings.
  • Provide mentoring to staff in the office where appropriate.
Marketing & Business Development:

  • Nurture a client base and build strategic partnerships with clients to secure work for the region in accordance with established targets and delivery timeframes in conjunction with project management and design elements.
  • Contribute to the development of the marketing and business development plan regionally and executes agreed plan in consultation with Business Line and Regional Leader.
  • Client liaison, development and networking as the face of AECOM PDD; develop relationships and alliances across operating companies and offices to identify business opportunities.
  • Prepare, present and refine proposals and other submissions in line with the firm’s strategy for growth and opportunity in area of expertise.
  • Develop professional alliances; maintain reputation through awards, speaking, publishing and teaching
  • Participate in Best Practice Exchange and other global AECOM PDD programs to ensure familiarity with regional and global activities.
 Project Responsibilities:

As a Project Manager, the Associate Director shall coordinate projects, working with other personnel (both staff and contractors) to complete work in accordance with the agreed budget and timelines for clients.

  • Attend and lead client briefings and present project stages and work to the client throughout the project.
  • Participate in design workshops with clients and staff as appropriate to the project.
  • Undertake any work in accordance with the scope of the proposal as agreed by the client and within the associated budget parameters.
  • Prepare conceptual and schematic design plans and reports for a range of projects.
  • Prepare documentation packages for projects.
  • Work closely with the client, sub contractors and stakeholders to deliver high quality product in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with the client to review project plans, and resolve any conflicts in design or parameters of the work.
  • Ensure accuracy of work in accordance with project scope within project parameters and client.
  • Implement and enforce AECOM PDD’s QM system.
  • Meet with and report to the Project Accountant on a regular basis to track project progress against the budget.
  • Mentor, challenge and grow other staff to create a high level of creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Delegate aspects of projects to team members and oversee their delivery in a timely and accurate manner with agreed quality standards.
  • Participate in financial reviews and report regularly on project progress and proposed projects to the studio management team.
  • Participate in regional and Business Line committees or forums as required.
Requirements:

  • Minimum  10 years experience in water resource planning and analysis; integrated land use, water supply, storm water and waste water planning; flood management; coastal hydrodynamics and modelling; knowledge of local legislation and sustainability initiatives (i.e. Estidama / LEED). Experience in aquatic ecology an advantage.
  • Minimum 3 years Middle East experience with a proven track record in project management and business development working in multidisciplinary teams, providing environmental support to integrate the work of technical specialists into land use planning projects.
