Description

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s Centre for Sustainable Transport, is seeking an Associate for its India Program. The successful candidate will be based in Mumbai, and will report to the Project Manager – Urban Development and Accessibility. With good prior expertise/ understanding of the intersection between transport, urban planning and urban design, the associate is expected to anchor key demonstration projects as well as conceptualize and formulate key papers/research in this domain.

Major Responsibilities:
• Participate actively in EMBARQ India’s ambitious and innovative growth strategy;
• Independently/ as part of a team/ or leading a team, manage plans and projects within urban development and accessibility whether in the public or private sector;
• Provide sound technical assistance, build relationships of trust and contribute substantively to projects;
• Strengthen existing relationships to consolidate professional commitments;
• Build and maintain a strong network and relationship with key institutions, stakeholders and colleagues throughout India and the EMBARQ Network;
• Identifying a network of experts/ consultants who can be relied on to help deliver results in projects;
• Organize, facilitate and/or attend events and workshops that are relevant to EMBARQ’s India program and the EMBARQ network on an as and when needed basis.

Qualifications:
• Post Graduate/Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Transport Planning, Architecture or equivalent;
• 4 or more years of work experience post masters with expertise/ understanding of the intersection between transport, urban planning and urban design;
• Prior experience having worked successfully with government institutions, the private sector and an understanding of statutory frameworks;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi.
• Good computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), AutoCAD, Arc GIS, Adobe Suite and Sketch Up;

Competencies:
• Be willing to work in start-up environments, and on projects that have ambiguity;
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Capability to learn and use software applications for budgeting, financing, and reporting that are used by EMBARQ and WRI;
• Commitment to EMBARQ’s mission as well as WRI’s mission and values.

Salary and Benefits:
Competitive, depending on qualifications and experience
