Role OverviewBackground: The Banks strategy in the energy efficiency and climate change sector is to further mainstream energy efficiency and climate change-related activities with a view to increasing their impact (in terms of volume of financing, number of operations, coverage of sectors, energy savings and emissions reductions, as well as innovative financing instruments) and assisting the region of operations in improving its energy efficiency performance.
More specifically, the Bank will scale up its sustainable energy programme (screening of renewable energy and industrial energy efficiency projects and use of energy audits), roll out dedicated credit lines, develop new products addressing energy efficiency in the built environment and design other innovative financing mechanisms to meet its sustainable energy objectives. In particular, the Bank has established the Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Direct Financing Facility (WeBSEDFF) with an initial endowment of up to EUR 50 million for providing debt financing to small renewable energy and industrial energy efficiency projects in the Western Balkans, Serbia and Croatia. The main goal of the Facility is to create efficient mechanisms for delivery of financing to local entities wishing to pursue industrial energy efficiency and/or small renewable energy projects. Given the increasing global focus on climate change and energy security, sustainable energy will play a significant role in the Banks operations in the Western Balkans, Serbia and Croatia. Therefore, EBRD is seeking to develop its sustainable energy activities in the region and is establishing this position in its Sarajevo Resident Office (Bosnia and Herzegovina), to materially contribute to this goal. An Associate / Principal Banker is sought to work in the EBRD Resident Office in Sarajevo as part of the Country Team covering the Western Balkans. The banker will be following up on business development leads and project implementation across all countries of the Western Balkans and will be expected to travel extensively in the region. The Banker will report to the Head of Office in Sarajevo for day-to-day matters and to the Director for Western Balkans on a Facility basis. Key Responsibilities and DeliverablesThe Banker will be capable of working throughout the whole life cycle of projects with supervision from senior team members. This will be accomplished through marketing, project screening, origination, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, preparation and monitoring of projects. This will include:
Sustainable Energy Investments - Working with all Banking teams in the Western Balkans, Serbia and Croatia, as well as with the Power and Energy Utilities, and Energy Efficiency and Climate Change teams to identify energy efficiency opportunities in industrial projects, as well as renewable energy projects in the Western Balkans, Serbia and Croatia, - Follow up on leads identified by consultants working for the Bank to promote Sustainable Energy projects in the region - Where necessary and in consultation with the EECC team, visit prospective Bank clients to assess energy efficiency opportunities, discuss energy strategy with management, decide on proceeding with a detailed energy audit and prepare for a visit of consultants to conduct such an audit - Develop and implement with other Resident Office bankers a marketing strategy to bring in clients where energy efficiency or renewable energy could provide a basis for business with the Bank - Support business development efforts and attend meetings with clients alongside sector team bankers - Lead transactions from origination, to signing and monitoring - Credit and financial aspects of project development, including financial analysis, production of financial projections and cash-flow models - Communicate with clients, monitor and manage the Banks pipeline of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the region, ensuring implementation is on track and remedying where this is not the case - Monitor the portfolio of existing projects of WeBSEDFF Regional dimension: The Associate / Principal Banker shall be strongly linked with the WeBSEDFFs Operational Leader based in Tirana, therefore frequent travel across the region as part of their mandate shall be necessary. Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications- Good relevant degree from a leading university in the country of education (e.g. preferably in engineering, economics or finance) a combination of technical and commercial skills is preferable Competencies & Personal Attributes- Ability to operate sensitively in multicultural environments and build effective working relations with clients and colleagues |
