Assistant/Junior Consultant Role Guide (Ecology)

What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with experience of ecology to join our expanding team. These individuals will have a hands-on role in all aspects of our work and will have a great opportunity to quickly develop their skills and experience under the guidance of our senior consultants.

The Role

The role will include assisting and carrying out site and habitat surveys; protected species surveys including for bats, reptiles, great crested newts and dormice; desktop studies; report writing; mitigation including translocations and site supervision.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree.
  • Experience of field work ecology.
  • Extended Phase 1 habitat and protected species survey skills.
  • Good report writing skills, ability to provide clear and concise information.
  • Driving licence and car and willingness to travel within the UK and work unsociable hours.

Qualifications / Education / Training

 

 

Bachelors’ Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline

ü

 

Masters’ Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline

 

ü

CIEEM workshops or similar in species or habitat survey best practice

 

ü

Experience

 

 

Phase 1 Habitat Survey

ü

 

Protected species surveys (ideally bats, reptile, great crested newt)

ü

 

Production of consultancy reports

 

ü

Protected species mitigation planning

 

ü

Attendance at development sites and contractor supervision

 

ü

Knowledge

 

 

Health and Safety and Risk Assessment

ü

 

A general understanding of the UK planning system

ü

 

Protected species ecology

ü

 

Skills & Competencies

 

 

Proven ability to work under pressure

ü

 

Flexibility and enthusiasm to confront challenges

ü

 

Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels

ü

 

Excellent communication and organisational skills

ü

 

Special Circumstances

 

 

Willing to work antisocial hours including nights and travel to distant sites

Membership of at least one professional body at an appropriate grade (IEMA or CIEEM)

Protected species licence(s) (ideally great crested newt and/or dormouse)

CSCS Card

Full UK driving licence
