Assistant Seasonal Reserve Manager (4 Posts)

These are seasonal posts to assist on National Nature Reserves (NNR) in North Wales over the busy summer months. You will be helping with the general management of the Reserves and monitoring and liaising with visitors on site.

Job Purpose

These are seasonal posts to assist on National Nature Reserves (NNR) in North Wales over the busy summer months. You will be helping with the general management of the Reserves and monitoring and liaising with visitors on site. They provide an opportunity for Welsh speaking graduates to benefit from experience and skills in order to apply successfully for posts in NRW or other environmental organisations at the beginning of their careers.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • To patrol the NNRs regularly.
    To undertake practical management tasks on the NNRs or on any other sites, as directed by the Reserve Managers. To undertake some monitoring of habitats and species and to collect other kinds of scientific data, as directed by the Reserve Managers. To take day to day responsibility for the information centres/exhibitions.
  • To liaise with Snowdonia National Park Authority staff and staff from other agencies and voluntary organisations, as appropriate. To liaise with educational groups and the public, and promote our function on the NNRs and in the countryside generally.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of conservation management and practical rural skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • An orderly method of working and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Working as a team member.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to currently and legally drive a car in the UK.
  • An awareness of Welsh culture, and a positive attitude to linguistic and cultural diversity.
  • The ability to use write and read Welsh fluently.

Due consideration has been given to the Welsh language requirements for the post and the existing skills within the team. Taking this into consideration the Welsh language skills required for the post are at Level 5.

Personal Responsibilities

  • Agree a personal delivery plan and report to your line manager on progress no less than twice a year
  • Exercise good judgement and be willing to be held to account for decisions, actions and choices made personally and by staff for whom you are responsible

Status

These are fixed term, pensionable, full-time posts for 14 weeks at Newborough NNR (000653), for 12 weeks at Coedydd Aber NNR (000654), for 12 weeks at Cadair Idris NNR (Ystradllyn) (000655), and for 14 weeks at Marian Mawr, Dolgellau (000671), beginning in July 2014.
