Description

The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) is an independent body established under the Climate Change Act to advise the Government on emissions targets, and to report to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The CCC's roles and responsibilities to the Department for Energy and Climate Change and National Authorities of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are set out in this framework document

The CCC’s Priorities

  • Provide independent advice to Government on setting and meeting carbon budgets and targets.
  • Monitor progress in reducing emissions and achieving carbon budgets.
  • Conduct independent research and analysis into climate change.
  • Engage with  representatives interested in climate change from across the UK in order to share research and information on climate change and gain input into our analysis.

This is a post in the new Adaptation Branch of the UK Committee on Climate Change Secretariat. It provides an exciting opportunity to apply your scientific skills in a high profile area, broaden your knowledge of climate change issues and to develop policy experience. The post-holder will be joining a team of around 5 other economists, scientists and assistants to support the Adaptation Sub-Committee, and will also work closely with academics, policy colleagues across Government and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities will be to:

- provide specific scientific advice, analysis and information on the potential impacts of climate change on the UK, and the capacity to adapt across a range of sectors;

- work with the wider adaptation team developing an analytical work programme to input into the Government’s Climate Change Risk Assessment;

- present findings to committee members and officials across Government Departments & manage research projects and relationships with key contacts.
