Assistant Scientist - Arctic River Carbon Chemistry

SUMMARY: The Woods Hole Research Center seeks an assistant scientist to contribute to and expand our ongoing research on the flux, composition, and processing of terrestrial organic carbon exported by rivers to the Arctic Ocean.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will

  • contribute to ongoing projects exploring carbon transport and processing in Arctic rivers
  • secure research funding to expand research on river biogeochemistry and land-ocean linkages
  • assist with project coordination, sampling, and data analysis
  • lead in presentation and publication of scientific results
  • collaborate with staff scientists, policy experts, NGO partners, and governmental agencies

Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD and postdoctoral experience in a relevant field is required
  • Expertise in biochemical, elemental, isotopic, and spectrophotometric approaches to characterizing river carbon is required
  • Excellent publication record and demonstration of strong funding potential is required
  • Experience with hydrology, biogeochemical modeling, and land-ocean connections desired
  • Highly collaborative, flexible, organized, and efficient
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Salary Range: Based upon experience.
