Assistant Ranger

Jupiter Urban Wildlife Centre, Grangemouth; plus other SWT reserves as required.

Duration: mid January – mid July/35 hours per week

In the middle of industrial Grangemouth, Jupiter is a fantastic demonstration of how urban green spaces can be created from wasteland. The Assistant Ranger will work with the Jupiter Ranger to carry out the following:

  • Lead guided walks and assist with public events
  • Present environmental education sessions for visiting school groups
  • Undertake practical conservation and habitat creation work on the reserve
  • Work with and support volunteers

Additionally, the Assistant Ranger will work with the Reserves Projects Officer at other SWT reserves across Clack, Falkirk and Fife, to:

  • Assist with implementing ongoing reserve projects;
  • Carry out practical reserve management tasks as required

Knowledge of local species natural history, commitment to nature conservation, good communication skills, enthusiasm and self motivation are essential.  The six month position will require some weekend, evenings and public holiday working.  

This post is jointly funded by the Coastal Communities Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund. Candidates applying for this post must fulfil all of the following criteria to be considered for this post:

  • Living either specifically in the Clackmannanshire or wider Inner Forth Landscape area (a map of the IFLI area can be viewed here: http://www.innerforthlandscape.co.uk/map)
  • Who are unemployed or underemployed*
  • Who have a keen interest, experience, background or education in the environmental sector as is appropriate for the post you are advertising.
    * You are currently holding a part-time job despite desiring full-time work or where you have relevant education, experience, or skills beyond the requirements of your current job
