Description

For over 50 years, the Scottish Wildlife Trust has worked with its members, partners and supporters in pursuit of its vision of healthy, resilient ecosystems across Scotland’s land and seas.

About the role:

We’re currently looking for an experienced and inspirational conservation professional to help deliver the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels - Developing Community Action project.  This initiative is designed to stop the decline of Scotland’s core red squirrel populations of the Highlands, Grampian, Northern Tayside and Stirling and maintain healthy populations of the species across key landscapes in southern Scotland.

In this role, you’ll support and mentor a team of 5 Conservation Officers and their staff to maintain and develop landscape-scale red squirrel protection networks  of communities, individuals and landowners working together to manage grey squirrel populations to evolving regional strategies. As well as guiding and supporting your team, you will work to ensure that staff recruitment, budgets, procurement, administration and reporting of the project are successfully delivered.

What we’re looking for:

Candidates should possess the following skills and experience;

  • A degree (or equivalent) in biological sciences or conservation.
  • A project management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in staff management and budget management ideally in the environmental sector.
  • Experience of managing contractors / contracts.
  • An understanding and knowledge of wildlife ecology and conservation, particularly relating to mammals.

About us:

We’re proud to have the support of over 42,000 members, 1,000 volunteers and 23 local (volunteer led) groups.

The Trust successfully champions the cause of wildlife through policy and campaigning work, demonstrates best practice through practical conservation and innovative partnerships, and inspires people to take positive action through its education and engagement activities. The Trust manages a network of nearly 120 wildlife reserves across Scotland and is a member of the UK-wide Wildlife Trusts movement.
