Description

The World Land Trust is an international conservation charity, working to protect threatened habitats around the world.

The Assistant Programmes Officer will primarily be responsible for the administration of the Carbon Balanced and Carbon Balanced Paper programmes within the World Land Conservation Programmes Team. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for all carbon related queries, with a particular emphasis on contacts with corporate carbon offset supporters.  In addition, the Assistant Programmes Officer will support the wider Programmes team on other non-carbon projects

Primary Responsibilities

  • Engagement with existing and potential Carbon Balanced corporate supporters and key Carbon Balanced Paper corporate stakeholders.
  • Computation and completion of carbon audits and associated calculations for existing and potential Carbon Balanced supporters.
  • Management of all records for the Carbon Balanced and Carbon Balanced Paper programmes.
  • Liaison with other Conservation Programmes team members and WLT departments to promote and develop the Carbon Balanced corporate supporter base.
  • Assisting the Programmes team in the administration of ongoing land purchase and protection projects including ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed and executed in accordance with Trust policies.

Experience/Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or higher in a relevant science subject.
  • Understanding of key concepts in climate science, appreciation of the impact of climate change on biodiversity and the role of conservation in short-term climate change mitigation.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and, preferably, PowerPoint. Willingness to undertake training required to use record-management databases.
  • Ability to engage with, and interest in, technical concepts associated with carbon footprinting and the capacity of terrestrial ecosystems to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with accounting processes preferred.

The post is based in the World Land Trust’s headquarters in Halesworth, Suffolk, although some travel within the UK or overseas may be required.  It is full time (35 hours per week).
