The Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) is the first research center of the Cyprus Institute(CyI,www.cyi.ac.cy), a novel non-profit research and educational institution in Cyprus. The EEWRC is rapidly becoming an important research resource for the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa addressing energy, environment and water issues on the basis of science, technology and impartial analysis, and a gateway between the EU and the region. The CyI strives to achieve the highest standards of excellence with an emphasis on international partnerships with world-class universities and research organizations. The EEWRC is being established in close collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT).

We are seeking qualified individuals for Faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level for the EEWRC. We are currently looking for applicants in two fields of specialization:a) candidates that utilize an integrative research approach to examine climate change and its impacts on terrestrial and marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean during the recent past and in the future in the Environment Division of EEWRC and b) candidates who will conduct research and technology development in environmental monitoring and modeling as well as material characterization with a strong background in mathematical modeling addressing various types of inverse-problems and multi-physical phenomena in the Energy Research Division of EEWRC.

The successful candidates will work in Nicosia,Cyprus. They will be reporting directly to the Director of the EEWRC and will be offered an attractive salary and benefits package.

The new Faculty members will be responsible for: contributing to the Division’s research agenda in collaboration with the Director of the EEWRC and the respective Division Heads by developing and implementing strategies appropriate to the Center’s missions and objectives, helping to develop a world-class research program, in the candidate's field of interest, assisting the Director of the EEWRC in recruiting staff for the respective Division within the Center, realizing and implementing the design of the physical facilities appropriate to the research of the Division, raising financial and other resources for the needs of their respective Division from national and international sources, contributing to the educational mission of the EEWRC and of the CyI, initiating and sustaining high-level contacts with leading institutions throughout the world which conduct research in areas related to their respective fields.

Profile: The successful candidates will be outstanding scholars of international repute, with a minimum of two years’ post-doctoral research experience. Previous responsibility for building research groups and/or managing complex projects from development to implementation will be a strong advantage. The candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, with strong capacities for managing human resources and for maintaining contacts in the academic, business and governmental circles, as well as obtaining support from them for the Center. Proficiency in spoken and written English is indispensable.
