Assistant Professor - Marine Social Science

The Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the University of New Haven invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning August 2024.

The Department seeks to hire a teacher-scholar with a broad background in the interdisciplinary field of Marine Social Science. We are open to a range of expertise but have particular interest in candidates specializing in: Fisheries and/or Aquaculture Policy, Marine Resource Sustainability, Marine Education and Outreach, Coastal Community Resilience, or Marine Conservation. We seek an innovative teacher and researcher who will coordinate our relatively new M.A. Marine Policy & Management program. In addition to teaching existing courses in the master’s program and our BS Marine & Environmental Sciences degree, there is opportunity to develop new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. We also expect the successful candidate to mentor student research at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Our department is large and varied with undergraduate degrees in Biology, Genetics & Biotechnology, Marine & Environmental Sciences and graduate master’s programs in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, and Marine Policy & Management. We value collaborative work and encourage innovative ideas that enhance the success of our students. We seek a colleague who is interested in developing relationships with the greater New Haven community and contributing to University efforts to educate the public on environmental issues.

Qualifications

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in a field relevant to marine social science and have a demonstrated commitment to student-centered active learning and equity and inclusion in higher education. In addition to teaching and service, the successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous program of high quality, independently funded research that engages both graduate and undergraduate students. Preference will be given to applicants with university-level teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to publish and obtain extramural research funding.
