Description

We’re looking for an Assistant Landscape Architect with a passion for the environment to join our growing team.

Middlemarch Environmental is an award-winning natural environment consultancy that has recently embarked on an exciting period of strategic growth. Headquartered in Coventry and with regional teams across the UK, Middlemarch provides nationwide ecological, arboricultural and biodiversity services, as well as supporting clients with innovative landscape design and nature-based solutions.

Middlemarch has a bold ambition to be the environment consultancy of choice, offering trusted advice that helps to create an enduring natural environment legacy.

Many challenges can arise at the interface of nature and human development. Middlemarch provides expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients to address these challenges and ensure that the value in nature is fully understood, preserved and, wherever possible, enhanced.

Established in 1991, Middlemarch Environmental is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. Collectively, the Wildlife Trusts are the largest voluntary nature and conservation organisation in the UK with over 850,000 members and 35,000 volunteers working to improve nature.

THE ROLE

The natural environment sector in the UK is experiencing its greatest change in over 30 years. Emerging legislation and an ever-growing awareness of the global biodiversity crisis means policy makers and developers alike are looking to nature-based solutions to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and human health and well-being.

Middlemarch operates at the vanguard of the UK’s response to these challenges and has built a strong reputation and proven track record in the core service areas of ecology and arboriculture. The company has also already established significant expertise in biodiversity net gain, habitat design and offset provision.

We’re now looking for an Assistant Landscape Architect to bolster our biodiversity and nature-based solutions practice. This exciting role will work across a wide range of projects and assist with all elements of landscape design, habitat creation and the design of nature-based solutions.

Other tasks will include site research and analysis, design for Biodiversity Net Gain, drafting of CAD drawings and production of landscape graphics.

The postholder will report into the Principal Landscape Architect and will work collaboratively with colleagues across the ecological, arboricultural, and biodiversity services teams.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates should be proficient in landscape research and site analysis, design, drawing production, and graphic presentation. Strong and accurate written communication is also vital. Good horticultural knowledge and experience of planting design would be ideal.

Competence with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office is essential for this role and previous experience with GIS and Sketchup would be of use.

Ideally, candidates will have a minimum of two years post-qualification experience in landscape architectural practice. Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute would be advantageous but is not essential.

WHAT WE OFFER

As a part of our team, you’ll be offered a competitive salary in line with your experience and skills, the potential for performance related rewards, company pension, and the opportunity for training and continued professional development.

Middlemarch celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and is committed to providing fair and equal access to opportunities for all candidates.
