 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Under supervision of the Land Steward, the Assistant Land Steward will support TNC staff and volunteers in the removal of non-native plant species, native seed collection and planting, and basic equipment maintenance tasks. In addition, the successful applicant must be willing to participate on complex prescribed fire operations and monitor the fire effects on both native and invasive species.
 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
 •   High school diploma and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related
    experience in land management. 
•   Experience recognizing plant and animal species.
•   Experience operating various types of equipment.
•   Experience performing physical work.
 ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
•   A degree in conservation biology, entomology, or related field is preferred.
•   Commercial herbicide application certification is required.
•   Ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision; strong organizational and
    communication skills; creativity in problem solving.
•   Familiarity with Michigan's flora and fauna preferred.
•   Demonstrated field related ecological restoration expertise is preferred.
•   Experience with Microsoft Excel and GPS units is desirable.
•   Proven strong prescribed fire experience, FFT1 certified or working towards crew boss
    required.
•   Basic First Aid and CPR certification, required.
•   Chainsaw certified, preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

•   Ability and willingness to work under adverse conditions in the field, including weather
    extremes, and traversing rough terrain.
•   Must be able to provide own transportation to and from Grand River/Skiff Lake fens (about 10
    miles south of Jackson, MI)
