The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the Hudson River Estuary Program are seeking a Stream Restoration & Conservation Assistant to work in NYS DEC’s Region 3 Office in New Paltz. Using the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative protocols, will assess road crossings, including culverts and bridges. Will work with partners to assess aquatic barriers, prioritize known barriers for replacement and mitigation work, and share information on known priority barriers. Will organize large datasets of aquatic barriers and analyze them for patterns of ownership, locations, aquatic connectivity, and ecological benefit. Work performed in both office and field settings.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry or engineering, or a related field. Six months of hands-on experience preferred with assessing road crossings and dams for aquatic passage and capacity from either classroom or professional setting. Knowledge of North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative protocols is desirable. Excellent communication and organizational skills required. This is a 12-month full-time position.
