Lowveld National Botanical Garden

The successful candidate must be in possession of a Grade 12 certificate as well as proven competence and experience in facilitating environmental education lessons. The candidate must have successfully completed a SANBI Assistant Education Officer training course.


The position requires a confident communicator who is able to relate well with both learners and educators. The candidate should show an understanding of the Department of Education’s National Curriculum Statement and have proven experience in working co-operatively as part of a team. The successful candidate must have good spoken and written communication skills in two official languages spoken in the Lowveld.


Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating lessons in the garden at least twice a week between Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Attendance at the compulsory development and planning meetings on Mondays.
  • Working closely and co-operatively with other team members and assisting in the development of new lessons and resources.
  • Fulfilling all administrative requirements timeously and accurately.

Please Note: This is an ad hoc position which does not offer a fixed salary. Payment will be made for meetings attended on Mondays (R112.50 per meeting) and scheduled teaching sessions (R150.00 per session). Payment will only be made upon submitting a signed timesheet. No other benefits are applicable. Please note this is a one year contract and might be renewed for another year, based on performance, operational needs and available funding.
