Description

To play an integral role in the implementation of the strategy for the Combating Conflict Diamonds Campaign, which works to ensure that diamonds cannot fuel conflict, human rights abuses, and terrorism, through research, advocacy, campaigning and media work.   

Key responsibilities ·         Contribute to the development and implementation of research, campaigning and advocacy strategies to strengthen the Kimberley Process ·         Represent Global Witness at Kimberley Process meetings and in Kimberley Process working groups ·         Take part in Kimberley Process reviews to monitor the effective implementation of the scheme in participant countries·         Develop and maintain contacts in international and national NGOs, governments, international agencies and industry·         Take part in external meetings including research contacts, NGOs, governments, international organisations and industry·         Monitor key developments, meetings and activities in the diamond mining, trading and retail industry ·         With members of the Conflict Resources team, carry out investigations and field research in specific countries or regions·         Carry out research for and write briefing documents, website materials, and reports to a consistently high standard for a range of audiences·         Work with the Conflict Resources team to develop a media strategy ·         Carry out press work, including briefings to journalists and interviews with all types of media ·         Assist in updating the diamond section of Global Witness’s website and maintain responsibility for keeping it up to date·         Carry out administrative tasks including maintaining notes from meetings and ensuring that all filing and information systems are kept up to date ·         Line manage volunteers as necessary·         Assist in fundraising activities including identifying potential donors and meeting sponsors as appropriate to the campaign  

Person Specification:  

Essential Criteria ·         Experience of campaigning in the NGO/voluntary sector ·         Experience of international lobbying and negotiating·         Experience of developing campaigning strategies·         Experience of field research and policy analysis·         Experience of working with the media·         Willingness and ability to travel, including to high-risk environments·         Fluent spoken and written English ·         Excellent communication skills                  ·         Ability to produce written materials including investigative reports, press releases and policy documents to a consistently high standard for a variety of audiences·         Proven ability to prioritise and organise own workload, meet tight deadlines and cope with multiple work priorities that may change at short notice·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team·         Strong organisational skills·         Strong IT skills·         Willingness to carry out administrative tasks Desirable

·         Fluent spoken and written French        ·         Direct experience of working on issues of conflict resources or human rights abuses ·         Knowledge of artisanal mining issues·         Knowledge of extractive industries issues (in the developing world)·         Experience of lobbying companies·         Strong numeracy skills including statistics·         Experience of working in coalitions and directly with other NGOs, including at the grassroots level
