The Marine Chemistry & Geochemistry Department invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position at the level of Assistant, Associate or Senior Scientist in the field of Marine Biogeochemical Modeling and Data Analysis. This is a regular full-time position and is eligible for benefits.
JOB SUMMARY:
We seek a marine or geo-scientist who studies biogeochemical questions using computational approaches including prognostic and inverse modeling, synthesis and analysis of large data-sets, and satellite remote sensing. Specific areas of research interest could involve investigations of past and/or present biogeochemical cycling over a broad range of spatial and temporal scales, interactions across marine, terrestrial, and atmospheric environments, links to regional and global (paleo) climate, and anthropogenic perturbations.
The selected individual will have the opportunity to work closely with WHOI scientists and engineers carrying out research in the fields of chemical, biological, geological and physical oceanography, and participate in shaping an interdisciplinary climate research initiative at WHOI. The successful applicant will be expected to have a strong interest in collaborative research and seek funding to establish a productive research program. Opportunities also exist for teaching and advising graduate students through the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography/Applied Ocean science and Engineering. While members of the Institution's scientific staff are expected to independently provide for their salaries from grants and contracts, the Institution does provide salary support when no other funding is available.
