Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Conservation Boards Secretary of State appointmentsThe Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) invites applications for Members on the Boards of two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - Chilterns & Cotswolds Conservation Boards. Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are areas of the countryside that are protected to ensure the conservation and enhancement of their special qualities. There are 34 AONBs in England. Traditionally, an AONB is managed by the local authorities within the designated area. However, in two of the AONBs, the Chilterns and the Cotswolds, Conservation Boards have been established. There is one vacancy on the Chilterns Conservation Board and three vacancies on the Cotswolds Conservation Board. Initial appointments are for a period of up to 3 years.
