Opportunities to be involved in the Anglo-French habitat management project ARCH.

A partnership between Kent County Council and Conseil Regional Nord Pas de Calais has recently been awarded funding by the European Regional Development Fund INTERREG IVA to deliver a 2.4 million euro project - Assessing Regional Changes to Habitats (ARCH). The main aim of ARCH is to improve the way in which key species and habitats are maintained, restored and expanded in Kent and Nord Pas de Calais, by means of sharing information and developing methods that assess their condition. The project has three key outputs:

1. To assess biodiversity extent and condition across Kent and NPdC, including exchange of data analysis experience and production of a state of the habitats report for the project area.

2. Use the data generated in output 1 to develop data interpretation and access tools for specific stakeholders.

3. To undertake a joint feasibility study of the use of innovative technologies for long term habitat monitoring.

We are looking for two highly motivated field surveyors with experience in capturing field data into ArcGIS using a recognised classification system such as the Integrated Habitat Classification System or the National Vegetation Classification. The surveyors will need to be able to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day.

Demonstrable competence in vascular plant identification will be essential together with experience of aerial photography interpretaion and data capture/editing techniques.
