Introduction

Our client are seeking an Arboriculture and Landscape Technician to join their established team based in Kings Hill.

The Job

Working within an established environmental team, to be responsible for coordinating and advising on arboricultural and landscape works across the network. To provide technical input to resolve arboricultural and environmental customer concerns relating to tree maintenance, management of invasive species (such as rhododendron) and environmental pests (such as rabbits). To ensure completion of the annual landscape condition assessments (based upon methods used in previous years) and update of the Landscape Management Plan. To provide technical input into scheme delivery, relating to arboricultural risk assessment.

Principal Responsibilities / Key Duties:

Inform, coordinate, support and pursue strategies regarding tree and landscape works across the network. Prioritising need and seeking funding options where applicable.
- Collate information as required by the Highways Agency, for monitoring landscape management. 
- Investigate damage caused to third parties by environmental factors such as trees, pests and invasive species. 
- Establish and maintain clear liaison channels and coordinate effective dialogue with stakeholders over tree and landscape works
- Arrange the annual Landscape Condition Assessments, subsequent update of the Landscape Management Plan and works.
- Facilitate scheme delivery where works would affect the highway network, such as providing advice relating to root protection zones, and tree work specifications.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Level 3 Technician Arboricultural Association (or equivalent / similar in landscape management)
  • Full computer literacy - knowledge and proficiency in use of relevant data and mapping software.

Experience - essential:

  • Knowledge and experience of arboriculture, landscape management, environmental pests, invasive species and tree maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience of coordinating tree and / or landscape works within a highways environment (or similar), with practical knowledge of arboricultural maintenance and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience of record keeping and data collation.

Experience - desirable:

  • Knowledge of highway network strategies
  • Knowledge of the Highways Agency business planning and systems, including involvement in the value management bidding process securing funding for studies and schemes.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Management requirements

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task and maintain timetable for delivery deadlines
  • Desire and capability to challenge and to be challenged
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills – must be able to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Customer-focused approach to service delivery
  • Ability to think conceptually and willingness to share expertise
  • Current UK Driving Licence
