The Ecology Consultancy is recruiting an arboriculturalist to take a leading role in undertaking arboricultural surveys to BS 5837, and to use these to produce Impact Assessments, Method Statements and to design Planting Plans. The successful applicant will have an appropriate arboricultural qualification, extensive Visual Tree Inspection experience, and a full understanding of the latest British Standards and best practice in arboricultural methods. Applicants should have wide-ranging project experience within the field of arboriculture and an interest in, and some knowledge of, protected habitats and species and, ideally, interest in undertaking bat surveys (holding a bat licence survey would be a bonus). They must be prepared to work across the UK and support work across all of The Ecology Consultancy offices.
Applicants must have demonstrable abilities in delivering their own projects on time and to budget, and of maintaining and improving the quality of work. Also essential to the role are excellent report writing skills and ability to prepare complex documents with excellent attention to detail. The role will require excellent client liaison, and applicants should provide evidence of having developed long term productive relationships with a number of clients and be confident in advising on tree and wildlife legislation.

 
Person Specification
Essential
Arboriculture survey qualifications and experience Consultant Grade – At least three years of working as an arboriculturalist in a professional role.
Senior Consultant Grade – At least five years of working as an arboriculturalist in a professional role.
A degree or equivalent qualification in a related subject.
Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association.
Experienced in a wide range of arboricultural work, to industry standard (BS 5837:2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction.
Arboriculture reporting and assessment experience Capable of producing the following:
• Tree Schedules and Constraints Plans;
• Arboricultural Impact Assessments;
• Tree protection schemes/Arboricultural Method Statements;
• Planting schemes.
Please bring examples to the interview
Qualification in tree climbing and aerial rescue to supplement bat orientated work, own climbing kit with up-to-date ROLO assessment for H&S purposes.
Clean UK driving licence
Self-motivated and able to manage own workload and support team. Able to integrate arboricultural work within a wider project that includes other types of surveys. Being able to reach a clear understanding of the wider picture of project constraints and opportunities through discussing the results of the different surveys.
Proven experience of managing a variety of projects, meeting deadlines and keeping to budgets.
Evidence of long term effective relationship with a number of important clients, offering advice and guidance.
Up to date knowledge of EU and UK legislation.
Good general knowledge of the planning system and understanding of the construction industry.

 
Desirable
Experience in carrying out ecological surveys of one form or another and in particular in relation to bats. A current licence to survey bats would be considered highly desirable.
Some experience in business development including attracting new clients
Holds a current CSCS card for work on construction sites.
