Description

We are seeking an Aquarist with a passion for marine life to join our specialist team to ensure we continue to provide our visitors with exceptional experiences in our award winning Aquarium.
The position is responsible for assisting with the production and maintenance of high quality living aquarium exhibits, aquarium technical operations and public education programs.  System maintenance on live exhibits and life support systems as well as routine SCUBA diving activities (if appropriately qualified), are also key activities for this position.

THE DUTIES

1. Maintain living aquarium exhibits and life support systems in accordance with policy and procedures (including records and registers).
2. Participate in the dive (if appropriately qualified), feed, maintenance, on-call and system check rosters as directed.  This may include weekend and after hours work as operationally required.
3. Undertake public presentations for visitors and/or volunteers as required.
4. Under the direction of the Curator and Senior Aquarist, and in consultation with other Technical Operations staff, contribute to the ongoing development of husbandry and display techniques and protocols including the development and construction of new exhibits, to industry best practice standard.
5. Contribute to effective team work through sharing information effectively and participating in team meetings.

The Person

- You have a passion for marine animals.
- You will be experienced in captive aquatic animal husbandry, including nutrition and feeding techniques, disease control and animal behaviour in an aquarium setting.
- You will have an understanding of water quality, maintenance and filtration, including familiarity with a variety of life support systems.
- You have an eye for detail and are able to manage your time when faced with competing priorities.
- You have a sense of humour and enjoy being part of a cohesive team.

Applicants must:

1. Be Australian citizens to be eligible for engagement.
2. Applicants must have minimum dive qualifications of Divemaster or ADAS or the ability to obtain these qualifications within a reasonable timeframe.
3. Experience and understanding of captive maintenance and husbandry of aquatic organisms (especially marine).

Desirable:

1. Sound knowledge and understanding of marine aquarium systems design, operation and technology including strategies for maintenance of water quality parameters and acceptable industry standards.
