Description

Organisation overview

Blue Ventures is an award-winning marine conservation organisation working to rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities. We’re committed to protecting marine biodiversity in ways that benefit coastal people. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and where there is a fundamental unmet need to support human development.

Summary job description

We are looking for an experienced manager to join BV’s dynamic and innovative community aquaculture programme in southwest Madagascar that is working to develop aquaculture industries around two main export products, the seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii and the sea cucumber Holothuria scabra.

The Aquaculture Coordinator– Southwest (ACSW) is a crucial role within the Blue Ventures Aquaculture Team with responsibility of oversight and ongoing development of a number of key aquaculture programme elements during a phase of rapid expansion of the aquaculture programme in the regions  of Atsimo Andrefana and Menabe. The successful candidate will assist in delivering a programme of work that provides tangible benefits to coastal communities underpinned by a rights based approach to small scale fishers and farmers. The ACSW will oversee operations, and maintain effective communications with project partners and the wider Blue Ventures team, ensuring our aquaculture projects in the southwest region, the heart of Blue Ventures’ operations in Madagascar, are delivered to a high standard.  The successful candidate will be comfortable managing a diverse multi-disciplinary team in a challenging operational environment and will thrive in dynamic, collegial atmosphere.

The Aquaculture Coordinator- Southwest Madagascar will be line managed directly by the Southwest Regional Manager, and will work closely with, and under the technical supervision of, the Aquaculture National Programme Lead.

This role will also liaise closely with the national and regional managers of other BV programmes (Blue Forests, Fisheries and Safidy) and site leaders in Andavadoaka and Belo-sur-Mer to ensure coherent region-wide delivery and integration of BV’s various programmes.

The role will directly supervise three aquaculture team members based in the Velondriake LMMA.

Application process

Applicants should apply online via the Blue Ventures website, by 8th December 2017.

Please note that applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and first-round interviews may be conducted with short-listed candidates before the application deadline.

All shortlisted candidates will be contacted within two weeks of the closing date.
