The Conservation Champions Manager is responsible for managing and implementing an organization-wide donor relations and stewardship program for TPL's Leadership Society: Conservation Champions (donors giving $2,000 or more). Working closely with the Annual Giving Director, the Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of mid-level Annual Giving donors and the fulfillment of benefits for the Conservation Champions program organization-wide. 

Essential Functions

  • 40%: Works with the Director of Annual Giving to create and manage recognition and cultivation strategies for mid-level Annual Giving donors (donors that give $2,000-$25,000) in order to renew and upgrade giving,.  This also includes reviewing and recommending recognition and cultivation strategies for Conservation Champion prospects (donors giving $500-$1000) In addition, the Coordinator will act as stewardship manger for a portfolio of 100-150 mid-level Conservation Champion (Annual Giving) donors. 
  • 30%: Proactively supports stewardship responsibilities of state and regional development staff by assisting them in coordinating individual and/or annual stewardship for Conservation Champion major donors. Works closely with local fundraising solicitors and the national office to fulfill Conservation Champion benefits at the appropriate level and develops effective means to utilize the development database to code and track stewardship activities. 
  • 20%: Marketing and Events: coordinates TPL's National stewardship collateral including TPL's Annual Report and Trust Notes, a stewardship newsletter to Conservation Champion donors and prospects in collaboration with marketing staff. Duties include developing and writing copy, creating distribution lists, and organizing delivery.  Plans annual donor teleconference with TPL's president.  Assists with state and regional events when needed. 
  • 10%: Other Annual Giving projects as needed

Functional Areas

Donor Stewardship

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive Conservation Champions stewardship plan through consistent and meaningful contact.
  • Responds to donor inquires, drafts thoughtful and personalized acknowledgment letters and other correspondence.
  • Conducts thank you and discovery calls to cultivate and steward relationships with Conservation Champion donors and prospects. 
  • Works closely with state and regional philanthropy teams on benefit fulfillment and special stewardship
  • Helps identify major and planned giving prospects to appropriate Philanthropy teams and Research. 
  • Coordinates Philanthropy content for Annual Report

Program Management

  • The Manager will help develop the Conservation Champions program structure, including organization-wide processes for tracking donor levels and fulfilling appropriate benefits. 
  • Will work closely with Annual Giving staff and TPL's Direct Marketing Agency to promote the program through Direct Mail and e-communications. The coordinator will provide vital input on recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Develop data management processes to record donor engagement, track benefit fulfillment, produce reports, and perform analysis.

Events

  • Ensure appropriate donors are invited to benefit events and are recognized for their service and generosity.
  • Provide assistance to State/Regional staff for coordinating "Day on the Land" and "Lunch with a State Director" donor events, including mailing list and invitations as needed.
  • Plan annual donor teleconference event with TPL's president.
  • Assist with special Annual Giving projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years in non-profit fundraising, marketing/communications or related field.
  • 1+ years experience in Donor Relations or Individual Giving strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising best practices, particularly in the areas of acknowledgment, donor relations and stewardship.
  • Working knowledge or willingness and ability to learn the basics of direct mail, major gifts and planned giving. 
  • Excellent organization skills, project management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about TPL's work and the ways they can support the organization. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to persuasively convey the mission of TPL to a diverse group of influential donors.  Position requires a high degree of professionalism, tact and diplomacy, and sensitivity to highly confidential information.
  • Experience with relational databases required (Access, Salesforce, Act, Raisersedge, etc.) Experience with database report software such as Crystal or Business Objects a plus.
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to work well both independently and cooperatively; proven success working as member of a team.
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • College degree required.
