Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Respond to inquiries and complaints and obtain information about animals used in film, TV, and advertising via telephone, the Internet, and reference sources Educate the public about inhumane treatment of animals used in these industries through the development and distribution of literature Present PETA's position on individual cases and animal abuse issues to print, radio, and television media Work with PETA's Communications Department to generate media coverage of our efforts Identify, brainstorm, and recommend campaigns to expose abuses and alleviate the suffering of animals used in movies, television, and advertising Work with PETA's Marketing Department to help draw attention to these issues, drive traffic to our Web sites, and create other interactive online campaigns to increase awareness of the issue Mobilize PETA members and activists through letters, phone calls, and action alerts to contact elected officials, businesses, and sponsors Monitor and support legislative efforts and the development of industry guidelines to ban, restrict, or improve conditions for animals used in movies, television, and advertising Develop and maintain relationships with various animal experts to obtain assistance with specific cases and legislation Attend industry conferences with PETA's great-apes exhibit Perform step-backs at least bi-weekly to analyze the success of the campaign and its many facets, to brainstorm, or to consider issues related to the campaign Maintain confidentiality at all times Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor Qualifications: Degree in a related field or equivalent experience required Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA's philosophy and ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues Proven exceptional writing and research skills Proven exceptional verbal communication skills Good public-speaking skills Good proofreading and organizational skills Ability to handle cruelty-complaint calls in a professional and confidential manner Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work Ability to make independent decisions in crisis situations that require authority intervention Ability and willingness to travel when needed Commitment to the objectives of the organization Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license, with three years' clean driving record |
