AssureWel is a major collaborative project between the Soil Association, RSPCA and Bristol University, supported by a grant of £2,700,000 from the Tubney Charitable Trust.  

This five year collaborative project aims to deliver optimum welfare assurance within RSPCA Freedom Food and Soil Association Certification Schemes and promote the uptake of outcome-based assurance within other UK and European farm assurance schemes.

We are looking for an Animal Welfare Advisor to provide high level specialist advice and technical support to producers in relation to best practice farm animal welfare.

Working with Soil Association staff, Bristol University and the RSPCA you will be responsible for advising and supporting participating producers in improving farm animal welfare.

You will bring and maintain a reputation for being an expert source of advice in farm animal welfare, building relationships with industry wide technical experts and leaders in your field. You will facilitate the development of producer learning networks, deliver key welfare events and produce high quality technical literature to support animal welfare improvements.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in farm livestock management or farm animal welfare/behaviour, you will have an in depth understand of organic farming systems and extensive practical experience of farm animal welfare/behaviour.  Self motivated and able to work on your own initiative you will be an excellent relationship builder and a confident communicator.
