The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking an Animal Technician II for its Cape Wildlife Center.  The main responsibility of this position is to rescue, rehabilitate and release ill, injured and orphaned wildlife.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: capture injured or orphaned animals, give  physical examinations and perform any necessary medical procedures to stabilize, restore and maintain health of wild animals; determine if animal is ready for release into appropriate habitat;  knowledge of species specific nutritional requirements and preparation of appropriate diets;  daily cleaning and maintenance of animal enclosures;  responsible for grounds maintenance, office upkeep, record keeping and organization;  greet visitors and private citizens dropping off injured, orphaned or sick animals; answer phones, give tours, assist with fundraising activities; explain facility rules and safety procedures; train and supervise students and seasonal staff; training on understanding of species specific behaviors and danger points of the animal;  have an understanding of the difference in imprinted vs. wild animals. High School diploma or equivalent, Veterinary Assistant I certificate and one to three years experience in a rehabilitation environment highly desired. Must have some knowledge of animal care and rehabilitation and be able to move/lift 50 pounds.  Good communication skills and ability to administer rabies and tetanus vaccinations strongly preferred.
