Description

Mountain View Conservation Society, in Fort Langley British Columbia, has a position open for an Animal Care Internship. Interns will work along side Keepers assisting with food preparation, daily cleaning, maintenance and grounds keeping, behavioral observation and breeding programs. Some administrative work may also be required. There will also be opportunity for interns to assist with Mountain View’s educational programs such as group tours and community outreach. Interns will also complete a research project on locally endangered species, presenting conservation methods that Mountain View, the Provincial Government and local communities could put into action.

Applicants should be University students or graduates of a related field, such as Biology, Zoology, Animal Sciences, Wildlife Conservation, Environmental Sciences, etc. and have a strong desire to attain a career in animal care in the future. Applicants must be physically fit; able to work a full, sometimes strenuous, 8 hour day, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

This is an unpaid position requiring a commitment of four 8 hour days per week for a minimum of 3 months. Interns must be prepared to work weekends and holidays, depending on scheduling. Housing is not provided, although Mountain View staff would be happy to help find suitable accommodations in the area. Interns must have their own transportation to the farm which is not connected to public transit. The benefit of the program is to gain hands-on experience with endangered animals in a very competitive field, and a reference letter from Mountain View Conservation Society will be achieved at the end of the term.

Applicants should apply by email with a covering letter, resume and 2 reference letters or 3 reference contacts. Please indicate the preferred 3 month term and earliest start date. Any previous animal care is an asset but is not required.
