Description

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Center for Park Management was launched by NPCA to develop practical management solutions and strategies that address the issues of managing our nation’s national parks. Working as a consulting group, CPM researches, delivers, and manages solutions to systemic park management challenges. The Analyst provides research and support to one or more of CPM’s management projects, covering issues of leadership, financial and operational improvement, marketing and outreach, etc. The Analyst plays a critical role in the success of our consulting projects by delivering high quality best practices research, conducting literature reviews, interviews, and other research tasks. In addition, incumbent will provide support in production of final project products, including editing and layout and implementing dissemination strategies as necessary.

  1. Research & Analysis: Work collaboratively with project teams to develop research plans and conduct research and analysis on a variety of management issues – related specifically to park management as well as other sectors of management. Research to include primary and secondary research, transcribing interview data, document review, analysis of qualitative & quantitative data, and best practices research. Develop in-depth knowledge of the operational practices and procedures of the National Park Service.

  1. Project Support: General administrative support to complement project needs, such as meeting arrangements, scheduling interviews, data compilation, formatting, copying, etc.

  1. Program Management and Participation: As a team member engage in the application and delivery of solutions on management improvement projects. Provide support to advance NPCA organizational initiatives and national priorities. Work with NPCA departments (Govt. Affairs, Communications, Media, etc.) to help inform and facilitate national priority goals. Participate as a member of the NPCA community in relevant and assigned forums, calls, and internal teams lending energy and insight to collective goals and actions.

Minimum Work Schedule:  9-5, M-F, occasional weekends and evenings. Occasional travel may be required.

Minimum Scope of Position: Internal NPCA staff contact and external contacts with a wide variety of people and interests, via phone, email, and in person. Involves development of relationships with NPS park managers and other partners. Occasional travel required. Evening and weekend work sometimes necessary.

Minimum Qualifications, Competencies, Skills, Education, and Traits:

Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience highly preferred.  Demonstrated ability to gather, organize, and analyze data. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to conduct detailed research. Confident in carrying out in-depth analysis of data. Graphic design skills a plus.

The incumbent must possess superlative organizational skills and have competencies as a natural organizer. The incumbent must also demonstrate capability as a competent, comfortable, fluent, and well-humored communicator. The incumbent should demonstrate ability to self-start and self-motivate and record of accomplishment and productivity in an individualized workplace environment. Interest and/or experience with national park and public lands issues and business management practices. Well-developed computer skills required (spreadsheets, word-processing, presentation development, publication tools, database development and use, etc.).
